Congratulations. We were delighted to see in the 2008 Birthday Honours announcement that our Captain - Mrs Aileen Kells, had been awarded an MBE for services to Girls’ Brigade Scotland. She has been involved with Girls’ Brigade for 50 years and commented: “The voluntary work carried out with young people is worthwhile in itself , and you get back tenfold what you put into it. But to have an award like this makes it that extra bit special”
End of year display. Wednesday 21st May saw the annual display of 25th Lothian Girls’ Brigade, This was attended by a large number of family and friends who enjoyed a variety of display of the talents of the 25th, including songs, a parachute game and details of the activities that had taken place throughout the year . This was brought together through an audio visual record of our activities. Mrs Kells and the other leaders reenacted the now their legendary Spice Girls performance of ‘Who do you think you are’ We also had our new Queens’ colour dedicated and will now be proudly used on ceremonial occasions. Stewart Cutler the URC Scottish Synod Youth Officer presented the prizes and recounted his ‘hair raising’ experience from the synod meeting (see below). CLICK HERE for photos
29th February to 2nd March six members went to the Scottish URC Synod residential meeting at Tulliallan Police College. During the youth forum we worked together and wrote a song to the tune of ‘and the saints came marching in’ all about climate change. Not only was this sung by all the Synod members, Sue our chaplain was so impressed it was sung again on Sunday 18th May at the Christian Aid service of Murrayfield Churches Together. We led this see photo on right of us planning to lead the large congregation
